Software Offerings for Students

In negotiating software licensing agreements for the university, UCit always tries to include favorable options for UC students. When such attempts are not successful, most negotiated agreements do allow the university to install the software in computer labs and on networks our students use. Sometimes faculty choose to place software - such as Autodesk, ESRI, and Mathematica - in the labs.

If you do not find the software application you want, here, please contact the Help Desk at 513-556-HELP (4357) or send e-mail to HelpDesk@UC.Edu.

Juniper SSL VPN is a web-based secure “private” connection between external networks and the university’s internal network. Web-based VPN provides the capability to allow authorized users access to private or restricted services on UCnet from off-campus locations. While travelling, users may encounter locations that prohibit a traditional IPSEC VPN connection; this is one area where the SSL VPN has a distinct advantage.

WinVNC is a VNC server that will allow you to view your Windows desktop from any VNC viewer. Currently, Windows only supports a single graphical user being logged in at any one time. WinVNC makes the existing desktop of the PC available remotely, rather than creating a separate desktop as happens with the Unix server. VNC does not make an NT machine into a multi-user server in the same way that Citrix-based software, for example, does. A single NT machine can therefore be accessed by multiple users, but if they all connect at the same time they will all see the same desktop.

Download WinVNC version 3.3.3.

WinZip 8.0's optional wizard interface makes zipping and unzipping files easy. WinZip features built-in support for CAB files and for popular Internet file formats such as TAR, gzip, UUencode, BinHex, and MIME. ARJ, LZH, and ARC files are supported via external programs. WinZip interfaces to most virus scanners.

Download a registered version of WinZip 8.0.
