A strong mobile presence is no longer optional; it’s a necessity. UC is creating a scalable mobile applications framework and a physical space to support innovations in mobile development.
UC Information Technologies (UCIT), in partnership with several university departments, is designing a UC-branded mobile application presence. The mobile apps’ framework will facilitate continued app development by members of the UC community.
The UC Mobile apps will be available as a free download for Apple and Android devices in February.
UCIT is renovating the space on MainStreet that houses the MobileCats Wireless store and UCIT’s ResNet services to incorporate a “Mobile Applications Incubator.”
The “incubator” will be a gathering place for students, faculty, staff and alumni to develop apps. UCIT will provide resources—experienced staff, tool sets, a code library and more—to help members of the UC community bring their app ideas to life.
This collaborative space will advance the state of research and practice in the development and use of information technology for enhancing the performance of individuals and organizations, provide a forum for interdisciplinary work on issues related to information technology and facilitate the exchange of information between the academic and business communities.
