Learning Technology Services

“eLearning” is “electronic learning” - learning that incorporates, is supported by, or is facilitated by electronic tools. This includes using Learning Management Systems (like Blackboard) as well as videos and online articles and resources in face-to-face classes. Most classes at UC utilize some component of eLearning, including face-to-face, fully online courses, and blended and hybrid courses.

Canopy is UC's eLearning ecosystem and community for all those interested in excelling at eLearning. In addition to the ecosystem tools, it includes faculty and staff development resources and pedagogical strategies.

Course Management

Blackboard

Blackboard Learn is UC's learning management system. Keep up with course announcements, track due dates with the active calendar, check your grades, review instructor feedback, and communicate directly with teachers and classmates.

Video Development

Echo360 ALP (Active Learning Platform)

Echo360’s Active Learning Platform, or ALP, is the university's enterprise tool for classroom capture. It allows instructors to create and upload content – before or during class – and students to access it anytime, anywhere, from any device. Over 75 classrooms at UC have a dedicated appliance installed that facilitates the automatic recording of lectures.

Kaltura

Kaltura is UC's enterprise media streaming and video repository tool. It is available within Blackboard and as a stand-alone software option. Kaltura CaptureSpace Desktop Recorder makes creating videos for your courses easy.

Web Conferencing & Instant Messaging

WebEx

WebEx is a great choice for online meetings and classes where ease of access is critical. With support for hundreds of participants, content sharing, dial-in conferencing, and meeting recordings, WebEx can be your new virtual classroom or conference room. You can even host virtual office hours!

Assess & Evaluate

CoursEval

Online course evaluations through CoursEval allow faculty to receive detailed feedback and statistics. Information is stored in a database where department coordinators or individual faculty members can review reports independently or compared over time.

Respondus Lockdown Browser

Respondus Lockdown Browser can be used to restrict students’ access to other programs while completing an online exam, helping to ensure that students are only using resources provided by their instructor.    

Respondus Monitor

Respondus Monitor can be used in live proctoring situations to video-record a student who is taking an exam from a remote location.

Respondus Test Maker

Respondus Test Maker is a test building software that allows instructors to create tests that can integrate with Blackboard both on and offline.

Exam Grading

UCIT offers exam-grading services using standardized multi-choice answer forms for processing exams, quizzes and surveys.

Lynda.com offers dynamic video tutorials for learning software, programming, business and creative skills, study skills, and more–all FREE to The University of Cincinnati faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students.
