UCIT protects the university’s most important information in our secure, environmentally controlled data center. Located in the Medical Services Building, our data center stores the university’s core computer systems along with the server racks of individual departments who rely on us to house their equipment.

So, what do we mean by secure?

• Eleven (11) video surveillance cameras record all movements, 24 hours a day.
• Automated software closely monitors temperature and humidity as well as detects leaks of water flowing under the raised floor.
  
• Two temporary backup power units are in place so you have extended time to shut down your servers properly in the event of a power outage.
  
• Fire detection and suppression via Halon/dry pipe equipment.
  
• Data network service (i.e., a primary node room for the university).
  
• Only authorized personnel may access the facility via card-key (ID badge). Authorized personnel can access the center 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year.
  

These features make the location ideal for IT equipment.

UCIT offers the following data center services:

Virtual Hosting Services: We build the server image, install the operating system, configure network access and security, and provide Storage Area Network (SAN) storage and data backups. Click here for more information on virtual hosting services.

Managed Storage Services: We attach your dedicated server to our SAN – we will monitor, support and maintain all hardware and software supporting the SAN.

Enterprise Backup Services: We copy your active files and back them up twice (once on internal disk and then on to tapes, see picture above, which are moved daily from the data center by Iron Mountain to their offsite storage facility).
