From wireless to information security to Blackboard, we are here to provide the technology you crave. We have staff dedicated to helping you with whatever technology questions or issues you may have. We also work with vendors to offer you significant discounts on all the software and hardware you need.
We service students, faculty and staff and we offer a lot of stuff. So this page highlights services we offer specifically for students.
Antivirus software: You need antivirus software to ward off bugs and worms from eating away at your computer. We offer McAfee antivirus software free of charge for your protection.
Blackboard: We use a learning management system to help you keep up in most of your classes. You'll use Blackboard to communicate with your professor and classmates, as well as find your course documents and information.
Computer labs: If you need to use a computer - whether you don't have one or you just left it at your dorm, we have computer labs on campus…even one inside of Langsam Library that is open 24/7.
E-mail: UConnect is the official student e-mail service at the university. It is a Microsoft exchange service, which means students can access it anywhere they have internet access. And UConnect is more than just e-mail; you can manage and share your calendar, contacts, files, etc. – all within one product.
Emergency Text Messaging: We can notify you via text message in the event of a campus emergency or weather-related school closing. No spam - we promise - just critical information when you need it.
File storage: Each student receives 1 GB (gigabyte) of personal online file storage space on UCFileSpace. Access it from anywhere in the world. Use it to store files, publish personal Web pages or explore Unix and computer programming.
Hardware discounts: We offer hardware discounts on certain computers.
Help Desk: Our friendly Help Desk staff is available seven days a week at 556-HELP (4357) or firstname.lastname@example.org. We'll do our best to answer all kinds of questions about your connectivity, phone, computer, software, etc.
Internet Wireless: SecureWireless is the name of the network for students and staff. If you need help connecting to SecureWireless, visit our website, contact our Help Desk or stop in to our Mobile Cats Wireless store on MainStreet for in-person services. The first three months of fall semester, our hours are Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m.-10:00 p.m.; Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; and Saturday-Sunday, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Internet in Residence Halls: ResNet stands for Residential Network and is a partnership between Housing and UCIT to bring wired and wireless Internet to the residence halls. All residence halls have 100% wireless Internet coverage! For assistance with connecting, see the "Internet wireless" paragraph above.
Mobile Phone: Need a mobile phone? We have a Mobile Cats Wireless store right on campus' Main Street currently offering Sprint service. Outside of Mobile Cats Wireless, students can take advantage of discounts from Sprint and AT&T available via the following websites: www.sprint.com/ucstudents or www.att.com/wireless/Ucincinnatistudents.
Order services: Student GetIT is the system you use to order IT items and services.
Password Reset: Password Self-Service allows you to reset your password to any connected application without having to call Help Desk. You simply answer a few questions and, if you later forget your password, you can reset your password instantly using PSS. You will be prompted with your questions and then allowed to reset your password yourself!
Security and FREE anti-virus: We all need to be secure, and our information is no exception. Check out the UC Information Security site to learn how to protect your stuff and download free anti-virus software! Also, check out our Information Security podcast.
Shuttle tracker: UC operates various shuttle routes on and beyond campus to get you where you need to go. We have partnered with Student Government to develop a real-time map indicating the routes and the GPS locations of the shuttles at any given time. You can use the tracker from your computer or from your mobile device via the UC mobile website. Never miss your ride!
Software: Don't forget to check out our software discounts before you buy elsewhere.
VPN: VPN stands for Virtual Private Network. It's how to access UC systems when you aren't on campus. Most of the time, you won't need it because only restricted information and systems access requires VPN. But sometimes, you may need to access something from the library website that is only available to staff, students or faculty, and you'll need to log into the VPN.
Did you know that we are the largest employer of co-op students for the College of Engineering and Applied Science? We employ more co-ops from their college than all outside employer groups!
