Exam Grading and Scanning Services Continue
by Michael Lieberman
UCit is restoring centralized drop-off exam grading for the current academic year (2004-05), rescinding an announcement sent six weeks ago stating discontinuation of the service, beginning fall quarter, as a result of the recent round of budget cuts.
UCit had discussed decentralization of exam grading with many colleges over the past three years and brought the issue to various committees for appropriate vetting, but it has become apparent that continuing with this plan would not best serve our students at this time. For the current academic year, UCit will provide a no-fee, centralized, drop-off exam grading service with a guaranteed 24-hour turnaround.
Service users may drop off exams at room 300C Zimmer Hall between the hours of 8:00 am and 10:00 pm. UCit will notify instructors by phone and email when the exams are ready to be picked up. The service provides one hard copy of the results and UCit can either email the raw data to the instructor or provide the data on a floppy disk supplied by the instructor.
UCit, through the division of Instructional and Research Computing, will renew discussions with the various colleges concerning the future of this exam grading service through the coming academic year to the end of providing a more contemporary, effective and cost-effective service for all. These discussions will provide the basis for any future changes to this service.
