Attention Students:
New Campus Agreement Signed between Microsoft and UC

by Amin Shafie

As a result of the new Campus Agreement between the University of Cincinnati and the Microsoft Corporation, registered UC students (as well as University faculty and staff) are now licensed to install and use the following Microsoft software products on their own computers, either at home or on campus:

FrontPage 2003
Office 2003 for Windows - Professional Edition
Office 2004 for Mac - Standard Edition
Office 2004 for Mac - Professional Edition
Office v. X for Mac - Professional Edition
Visual Studio .NET - Professional 2003
Windows XP Professional upgrade.
Windows XP - Service Pack 2 with Advanced Security Technologies.
In accordance with the contract, you may use the most current versions of any of these products. For example, a student who currently runs Windows 2000 is now licensed to upgrade to Windows XP Pro.

Since the University has pre-paid the cost of the license for each registered student, the only cost to a student is for the media (i.e., the CDs), which is minimal, as follows:

$3.75 for FrontPage
$6.99 for Office Pro for Windows
$6.00 for Office Pro for the Mac
$12 for Visual Studio Pro
$5.50 for Windows XP Pro

CDs for these products are encrypted, allow software installation on two computers, and require students to register with Microsoft for the programs to continue running. UC is distributing the special CD for Windows XP - Service Pack 2, a very recent edition, at no cost to any interested student.

To obtain the media, visit one of the UC Bookstores. The Bookstore will ask you to provide valid identification to verify your eligability and you will be asked to sign and keep a copy of the Microsoft Campus Agreement Subscription Acceptance Form for Registered UC Students. Among other things, this form outlines the terms and conditions for use of the software and informs you that because you will own your license, you may take the software with you if and when you graduate from the University of Cincinnati. This agreement makes it very easy for the entire UC community to obtain Microsoft software. It is yours for the asking.
