Stata Statistical Software Now Available

by Amin Shafie

At the request of colleagues in the Department of Economics, UCit has completed an arrangement with the Stata Corporation to provide interested UC students, faculty, and staff with licensed access to this software at discounted prices. Stata is a twenty-year old software company that has been developing cutting-edge statistics, graphics, and data management solutions for research professionals. The Stata software is available for the Windows, Macintosh, and Linux platforms, and comes with complete documentation.

There are three "flavors" of Stata from which to choose:  Stata/SE, Intercooled Stata, and Small Stata. Each provides the same functionality; the only difference is the size of analysis it can perform. The first two are professional-level software, whereas Small Stata is appropriate for student use.

[Editor's Note:  Pricing information has been deleted from this article, because pricing has changed since Spring 2005. Please visit the Stata page for pricing information.]

Interested users must order (and pay for) the software directly from the Stata Corporation but will take quick delivery from UCit. Via this arrangement, called the Method 3-GradPlan, the cost to UC users will be kept to a minimum since shipping and other handling costs are eliminated. Stata will place and monitor a small inventory of its products with UCit.

To order by phone, please call Stata at 800-782-8272. To order by email, please write to stata@stata.com. You also may order by visiting the web site at http://www.stata.com.

To get an order form from UCit or to request a small brochure, please send email to Darlene.Maurer@UC.Edu or call Darlene at 556-9026.

Since the Economics Department will be offering a graduate course that will use Stata in Spring Quarter, copies of Intercooled Stata and Stat/Transfer have been installed in the College of Arts and Sciences' instructional computer lab in Rieveschl.
