Electronic Housekeeping Reminder

by Beverly Upton

UCit requests that all UCMAIL (Exchange) users periodically review their mailbox contents and remove all non-essential messages. Here are a few tips:

  1. Sort and review messages based on size. Messages with large attachments can be primary contributors to large mailboxes.
  2. Remove old calendar items that are no longer applicable.
  3. If you do not wish to permanently delete some messages, create a Personal Folder to store them as you would an archive. Please see How do I create a personal folder for e-mail on my hard drive or server? and How do I compact my personal folder, to reduce the space it is taking up?
  4. Insure that journaling is "enabled off" and delete any journal items that may have been created. Please see How do I see if I have journaling enabled? and How do I clear out old Outlook journals that were created?
  5. "Empty Trashcan Folder" to insure all deleted mail is permanently removed and is not counted as part of your allocated storage. Please see How do I configure Outlook to empty my wastebasket automatically? and How do I manually empty my wastebasket?

UCit appreciates your cooperation. If you have any questions, please contact the UCit Help Desk at 556-HELP (4357).
