UCFileSpace
Your files, anywhere you need them

As previously announced in UCit now, UCit is developing a new online file service for faculty and students. The UCFileSpace service will allow authorized UC faculty and students to store their files in a personal, online storage area and access them from anywhere on the UC campus network. Possible points of access include the computers in UCit's public computer labs or almost any other network-attached computer on campus. If you have a laptop computer with a wireless network card, you can also get to your UCFileSpace from McMicken Commons, the Mainstreet patio tables between TUC and Steger, or any other wireless access point on campus.
Personal Web Pages
UCFileSpace will include support for personal web sites. Publishing a web page will be as easy as dropping a web document into the Sites folder in your UCFileSpace. The Sites folder includes a template to help you get started.
Personal web pages are currently available using the OZ Unix service, and are served to the Internet using http://homepages.uc.edu/~username. We will change the homepages.uc.edu service name to point to UCFileSpace at the end of summer quarter.
Unix Shell Access
UCFileSpace service will include access to a Unix command-line environment (Unix shell), replacing the OZ Unix service. Shell access to UCFileSpace will debut during summer quarter, and will include all of the popular features currently available on OZ. At the end of summer quarter, we will change the oz.uc.edu service name to point to UCFileSpace as an alias.
UCit began rolling out UCFileSpace during summer quarter by giving accounts to all incoming freshmen during their summer orientation sessions. We expect to make the service available to all UC faculty and students by the end of summer quarter.
