Outlook 2003 Junk Email Filter Update Available

by Lisa Padgett

Microsoft has released an update to Microsoft Office Outlook 2003. This optional update provides the Junk Email Filter in Outlook 2003 with a more current definition of the messages that it should consider junk email. By installing the update, you help the Junk Email Filter give you a higher level of protection.

To take advantage of the update, once it is installed, you must run Outlook 2003 in Cached Exchange Mode. To turn this option on, perform the following steps:

  • Click on Tools and then Email Accounts.
  • Select View or change existing email accounts.
  • Click Next. Highlight Microsoft Exchange Server and click on Change.
  • Click on the box next to Cached Exchange Mode (to enable) and click Next.
  • Close and reopen Outlook to complete the change.

You can download the Junk Email Filter update from the Microsoft web site. At the site, click on "Check for Updates" in the Office Update Window. The update window will walk you through downloading the office updates, including the Outlook 2003 update. For successful installation, be sure to have the Office 2003 disk available before performing the update.

Please direct any questions about this update to the UCit Help Desk at 556-HELP.
