New IT Services for the UC Community
by Paul Czarnecki
You will find the most current UC IT news on the web. UCit publishes an online newsletter every quarter. You can select an issue from the UCit now home page at your convenience. You may want to check the most current issue regularly, for any "Late Breaking News." You may also want to keep an eye on both the UCit home page for news bulletins.
The fall - "Welcome Back" - issue of UCit now is typically our largest issue of the year. In it, we detail new service offerings and remind the UC community of existing offerings and upgrades.
In this issue, you can read about the new Unified Messaging System, extended discounts for home high-speed Internet access, a new anti-spam solution, the new UCFileSpace services, and new services for electronic classroom support. There is also a summary of the recent informational seminar, jointly hosted by Human Resources and UCit, on protecting your identity.
As technology continues to transform the educational experience at UC, UCit now is the main communications medium of the university's central IT organization for faculty, staff, and students. All faculty and staff receive word of each new issue through the University of Cincinnati's weekly "E-Currents" newsletter. Students have the option of subscribing to a version of the UCit newsletter edited for student-relevant articles only. If you are a student and would like to receive a quarterly e-mail message notifying you of a new issue's availability, please send a message, with "SUBSCRIBE" in the subject line, to UCit.now@UC.Edu.
Students can also refer to the online Keys to IT Services, which is updated annually as a convenient reference for student IT resources. This quick guide features links to student IT services such as: Bearcat Online e-mail, Blackboard, public computer labs, and discounted and free software offerings. The document is also available for selection from the Documentation home page, where you will find links to write-ups on various IT topics.
The UCit home page and the UCit Help Desk home page are also good resources for current information on virus activity, planned system outages, and other IT news.
UCit is in the process of updating its entire web site and expects to have the new site ready for the start of winter quarter. If you have questions or concerns about anything pertaining to IT at UC, please do not hesitate to contact our Help Desk at 556-HELP.
