Student IT Policies

With the start of a new academic year, both new and returning UC students should be aware of two important policies related to the use of IT at UC.

General Policy on the Use of Information Technology
This policy, enacted in September 2000, applies to all UC students, faculty, and staff. Departments and colleges might also have additional policies. Students in on-campus housing must acknowledge this policy at the start of each academic year before connecting to the UC network. The policy defines both responsible use standards as well as user technology rights. You can view the policy online at the following location:

Student E-mail Policy
The student e-mail policy states that the University of Cincinnati uses Bearcat Online as its official vehicle of communication for University business with its students. All UC students receive a free Bearcat Online account. The policy recommends that students check their e-mail accounts frequently for important information such as closings, financial aid, and other official University news. If students do not wish to use these accounts, they can forward mail to accounts of their choosing. The Student E-mail policy resides at the following location:
