Information Security Roadmap:
Where are We Going This Year?

During the five fast-paced months since I became a part of the UC community, it has been a challenge deciding which Information Security (InfoSec) or Privacy initiatives to tackle first. People handling IT duties here at UC are excited and committed to doing the right thing in regard to InfoSec and Privacy. Many good processes had been put in place long before I started filling this role. After much research, reflection, and many conversations with my peers in both higher education and in the corporate world, I have decided that our main initiatives for this year will be:

• establishing a comprehensive Security Awareness campaign
• creating a UC wide Cyber Security Emergency Response Team
• building on the SAP Security work we are doing as part of the UC Flex project
• creating an integrated Identity Management team
• performing various risk and vulnerability assessments for both UCit and our overall UC IT infrastructure
• starting to migrate Clean Access from the Dormitories to the rest of the campus
• initiating a centralized security logging system for UCit

As you can see, this will be an exciting year for InfoSec at UC. Our Security Awareness program will consist of:

• rolling out our new UCit InfoSec web site
• launching a poster campaign
• conducting quarterly brown bag seminars on InfoSec topics
• offering annual InfoSec training courses for IT professionals working at UC

UC InfoSec will be having an exciting and busy year and I hope that you will join in the excitement and visit our web site. We have provided a large amount of good information and there are some entertaining areas as well.
