Mainframe Upgrade Enhances Performance

by Bill Lewis

The University of Cincinnati is transitioning from an IBM Z/800 to an IBM Z9 mainframe computer. The Z9 has larger processing engines that will enhance the performance of UniverSIS, OneStop, the Data Warehouse, DARSweb, and the Admissions applications. This will also give the university the necessary capacity to host Ohio State University's (mainframe) disaster recovery site.

We expect this upgrade to satisfy the university's need for mainframe computing power for the next five years. The IBM Z9 has been installed and the UCit Mainframe Technical Support Group is in the process of testing operating system and application software. The cutover date to production for the Z9 is scheduled for middle to late May.
