UCit to License JMP Statistical Software
by Amin Shafie
The University of Cincinnati is planning to sign an unlimited, campus-wide site license agreement for the JMP statistical software package from the SAS Institute. The license will benefit students as well as faculty, staff and departments. The software will run on Microsoft Windows and the Apple Mac platforms.
According to the SAS brochures, JMP, pronounced "jump," is so named to suggest a leap in interactivity, a leap in a new direction. "Because JMP dynamically links statistics with graphics, it makes your data accessible in ways you might never have thought possible. JMP lets you grab your data, slice it, spin it and make it come alive. JMP has an attitude toward data that is close, personal and intimately interactive. It has the immediacy of a spreadsheet, but allows you to interact with graphs and not just tables."
Initially, UCit will distribute the JMP software to interested users for $45 plus the price of media. The license is annual and must be renewed in order for the software to continue to run. As demand for the software increases, the price will drop accordingly. We expect the software to become available for distribution beginning 1 September 2007.
