Streaming Online Video Available for Courses
by Doug Martin
Are you looking for a way to get video content online? The Instructional Design department within IRC can help. Our recently installed Wowza Media Servers for streaming Flash video give you a very effective tool for delivering online video content across the web. Flash video is the fastest growing and most widely used web format for online video delivery. It is the format used on video sharing sites such as YouTube. Streaming video with our new servers gives you the ability to deliver high quality video on lower bandwidths and with smaller file sizes. This means you now have a more efficient way of posting your course videos or class lectures online.
The Instructional Design group of IRC is always happy to help you with any questions or concerns you may have with online video. If you are needing help with producing video, or just need a simple means of delivery, the ID staff is available for your assistance. We are ready to help you with video production, video conversion, and online deployment. We also offer a wide range of custom video players to best fit your needs. To view these players, please visit our video player web site at http://homepages.uc.edu/id/playerSite/.
If you are looking for other means of online video delivery, we also offer support for streaming of QuickTime files (.mov, .mp4, .mv4). This is another easy, highly effective way of getting your video content online. The QuickTime format gives the option of downloading videos to users’ portlable media devices (such as iPods) or desktops for offline playback.
In addition to help with your online video needs, the Instructional Design unit of IRC can help with all aspects of analyzing, designing, and developing tools for instructional or research needs. For more information about how the Instuctional Design unit can help you, please contact us via email at id@uc.edu, or at 556-9102. We look forward to helping you with any of your instructional design needs.
