Zimmer Auditorium Renovation Nears Completion

by Jay Bunthoff

As 2007 draws to a close, Zimmer Hall's occupants have cause to rejoice. As the noise and dust settle from the rennovation of Zimmer Auditorium, we look forward to the reopening of the university's largest teaching space.

Zimmer Auditorium serves academic and nonacademic functions. The university expects its more flexible design to allow broader utility and improve ease of use. A reduction in seating capacity from 865 to 534 seats is more than offset by the project's numerous improvements.

  • Dual source projection capability, typical in larger electronic classrooms
  • 16:9 image projection capability for high definition DVD playback, or projection of wide aspect laptop images
  • Theatrical lighting with a programmable multi-channel dimming console
  • A rear-projection Smartboard, located stage right
  • Two confidence monitors in the front row modesty panel to emulate the main screens and allow instructors to maintain eye contact with an audience while presenting
  • A videoconferencing system with traditional two-camera configuration
  • Connectivity for a portable Mediasite rich media capture box

We eagerly await the removal of the construction barriers. Please contact Electronic Classroom Support Services at 556-1977, if you would like to take a brief tour of the auditorium before the official opening.
