Wireless Access on UC's Campus

by Diana Noelcke
25 August 2003

The BEST thing about wireless networks is that they are so open and easy to access, and the WORST thing about wireless networks is that they are so open and easy to access.

Wireless computing is the hot topic on college campuses across the country. The University of Cincinnati is a forerunner in the implementation of over 200 wireless access points across its campus. Although we have had wireless for almost two years, it is an ever-changing, perpetually new environment. The initial 50 access points within Engineering College have grown to 200 campus wide.

At a recent Technology Implementers meeting I presented on this very subject. Visit Wireless Update [obsolete URL deleted] to find out about the wireless "Achilles Heel," UC's wireless standards, what drives wireless installation on campus, area maps that highlight where you can use your wireless laptop around campus and the future of wireless on UC's network.
