Gregory J. Vehr

Gregory J. Vehr is Vice President for Governmental Relations & University Communications at the University of Cincinnati (UC). Vehr joined UC in 1999 and manages a staff of 60 professionals pursuing governmental relations, public relations, communications services, marketing and community relations initiatives on behalf of the university. Over the past decade, he has been instrumental in raising awareness of UC’s prowess as a top public research university and managing the image of UC and its leadership through a period of unprecedented growth and success.

Vehr’s governmental relations program includes federal, state and local initiatives. He led the effort to open a governmental relations office in Columbus. He is also responsible for the university’s marketing, public relations, branding and communications functions. Vehr led UC’s branding effort in 2001 which is credited with playing a significant role in the university’s continually improving reputation among its many constituents. Vehr also initiated the development of communications and governmental relations strategic plans that support UC’s drive for national and international recognition.

Vehr is a graduate of Miami University, Oxford with a B.A. in Communications. Before joining the university, he was Assistant Secretary of State and Chief of Staff to Secretary of State Ken Blackwell. He was previously Executive Director of the Hamilton County Republican Party, Director of Governmental Affairs for the Cincinnati Board of Realtors and Assistant to Cincinnati Councilmember Steve Chabot.

In addition to his responsibilities at the University of Cincinnati, Greg enjoys family activities with his wife Patti and their five children.
