Meta tags

  • Add meta tags -- meta tags aren't visible on the Web page -- they're part of the HTML code. They include keywords and descriptive information that can be read by search engines, including the UC search engine and public search engines like Google. They make your pages easier to find.

Tips for writing key words: Make a list of words and phrases that your potential users would type into a search engine if they wanted to find the information you have to offer. Include older terminology, nicknames and casual reference names as well as formal terms. You can even include common misspellings and misnomers if it will help people find your site.

To edit meta tags in Dreamweaver: Make sure the Properties window is open (Window > Properties). Then choose View > Head Content. This opens up an additional toolbar with icons representing all the items in the <head> tags of your Web page. Click on the Description and Keyword icons illustrated below to change the respective head content.
