TO: All Full-Time Faculty
FROM: Sandra J. Degen, Ph.D. Vice President for Research __________________________________________________________________________
Applications are now being accepted for the 2008 URC Summer Faculty Research Fellowship Program.
PURPOSE
The URC Summer Faculty Research Fellowship Program is designed to support the development of faculty research and scholarship. The program provides financial support over the Summer months to faculty who are in the initial stages of developing a line of research or scholarship. Successful applicants are expected to present records of prior activity that indicate a devotion to scholarship and the potential or high quality achievement.
ELIGIBILITY
All 80% FTE to full-time members of the university faculty with 9 or 10-month appointments are eligible to apply for these Summer Fellowships. While no priority is given to particular faculty ranks, the majority of recipients are typically drawn from the assistant or associate professor ranks.
Because the primary intent of the program is to provide funds to initiate, rather than to sustain research programs, all recipients of URC fellowships in a given year are ineligible to participate during the subsequent three years.
FELLOWSHIP PERIOD AND AMOUNT OF STIPEND
The period of the fellowship covers two Summer months and normally begins on July 1st and ends August 31st. Fellows may not hold any other Summer or release period employment during the fellowship period.
There is a fixed stipend for the fellowship period, which has been set at $8000 ($4000/month). In addition, applicants may request up to $6500 in additional funds to support the project.
