Q: How can I get involved in postdoc issues and events?
Join the UC Postdoctoral Fellows Association (PDFA) meetings. PDFA meets every third Tuesday of the month at 1 p.m. in 6870 CARE/Crawley Building on UC's medical campus. Join the discussion and help address the needs and concerns of postdocs at UC. E-mail cincypdfa@gmail.com and request that your name be added to the PDFA mailing list.
Q: Are postdocs considered students or employees of the university?
Postdocs at UC are considered staff of the University of Cincinnati. Staff-related information and answers to question can be found on UC's Human Resources site.
Q: How and when do I obtain a US Social Security Number?
All postdocs must obtain a Social Security Number (SSN). UC International Services provides information on this and other issues for international postdocs.
Q: Do I have to pay taxes if I am a postdoc?
All income from postdoctoral appointments is subject to state and federal tax.
Q: Is it true that I can get three credits of tuition waived per semester?
Yes! You can register for classes through One Stop Student Service Center (or visit the front desk in 220 University Pavilion, 2nd Floor). You must register as a “non-matriculated student,” because you are not enrolled in a degree program. You must register for credit (do not audit!) for the tuition waiver.
