The University Research Council (URC) announces the Summer Graduate Student Research Fellowship Program for the Summer of 2008. As defined by the URC, research includes not only intellectual activity designed to expand our knowledge and understanding of people and their environment, but also activities in any of the creative and performing arts aimed at interpreting and enhancing that environment. The program provides summer stipend support to outstanding graduate students. The funding is provided so that the awardee may pursue scholarly activities on a full-time basis from July 1 through August 31, 2008.
-
The stipend level is $3,000 for two months ($1,500 per month).
-
The proposed research should be that of the student, related to his/her thesis or dissertation research.
-
Awards are not for student research assistants on faculty members' projects.
-
Fellowships are competitive and each one is based on a written proposal prepared by the student and sponsored by the faculty member acting as research advisor.
-
Fellowships are limited to graduate students who are engaged full-time on their research during the period of the award.
-
The URC fellowship award may be supplemented by other funding that supports the proposed project.
-
Students receiving URC funding for Summer 2007 are not eligible.
Please note that the number of applications submitted through each graduate program is limited, and a requirement for a pre-review by the department/college of the applicant is required. The number of applications that can be received per graduate program is one-sixth of the total number of enrolled full time students, with the minimum number being one application. For example, programs with less than six students can submit one application; programs with 18 students can submit three and programs with 35 students can submit 5 (no rounding up).
Applications will only be accepted from the graduate programs. Graduate Program Directors should indicate on the front of each application which one of the five subcommittees should review each proposal (Humanities & Arts; Behavioral & Social Sciences; Life Sciences; Physical Sciences; or Engineering). Departmental rankings are not to be included and are no longer part of the evaluation process. Interdisciplinary students should submit their applications to Dr. Neville Pinto.
Deadlines for internal proposal review are set by each graduate program.
All parts of the application including the letters of reference must be submitted online as one Word or pdf document through the Office of Research website (http://webcentral.uc.edu/URC/applyonline.cfm). Please email Linda Minton at Linda.Minton@uc.edu if you have any questions. Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. on January 25, 2008.
Incomplete applications or applications submitted after the deadline date and time will not be considered for awards.
