UC Forward offers Introductory Experiences

The Provost needs the help of UCUAADA to promote the UC Forward Introductory Experience (FYE) gateway course and the award-winning, multidisciplinary, team-taught courses. The courses fit within ICL. What is UC Forward?

UC Forward is an exciting new teaching and learning initiative—pairing students, faculty and external experts, each from differing perspectives—to create innovative and transformative answers to problems and uniquely develop tomorrow’s workforce (see UC Forward One-Pager). Across the University faculty from different departments are pairing up to offer unique experiences for students who want to explore complex social, cultural, and environmental issues that matter. Students learn how to look at issues from multiple disciplines, solve problems, collaborate, and come up with innovative solutions that make a difference to our community, nation, and planet.

Introductory Experience gateway courses

Introductory Studios are collaborative learning experiences, in which students are able to demonstrate clearly—precisely and convincingly—constructive, effective and transformative solution-oriented outcomes for problems brought by a client or user group. These courses introduce first-year students to the types of learning activities and level of accomplishment that graduating students are expected to demonstrate.

HNRS2031: Inquiry to Innovation

In a global world, being smart and working hard isn't enough. Through collaborative learning experiences, students will be able to develop effective and transformative solution-oriented outcomes for problems in partnership with a client or user group. While the course is offered through the Honors Program, high-performing students (with a 3.4 GPA) from outside the program may also enroll—with permission of the program.

Students will participate in the following:

  • Identify and distinguish differences between types of collaboration
  • Perform as a constructive and effective member of a trans-disciplinary team
  • Appraise opportunities to create new perspectives for problem-solving
  • Conduct qualitative, quantitative and archival research
  • Synthesize research and ideas to develop initial concept prototypes
  • Justify solutions based on market and societal inquiry

Sections are listed on OneStop

OLHR2099C: Introduction to Innovation Transformation Course

This is for all students around UC. This is the Gateway class to the Certificate called UC3. There are no prerequisites.

UC Students,

Interested in taking a BoK course unlike any BoK course you have taken before?  Interested in starting your own business or charter school some day?  Wondering how you can be better at coming up with innovative new technology ideas/inventions?  Do you care about how education, criminal justice, human services, and information technology impact society, the environment, or the global economy?  Want to work on challenging projects with students from other disciplines across campus?

If your answer is yes to one or more of these questions, then we strongly encourage you to consider signing up for the 3 credit hour course: OLHR299C:  Introduction to Innovation Transformation.

This is the intro course to the UC3 Certificate program, an undergraduate certificate in 'Innovation Transformation', that has been designed to be highly accessible (you can obtain the certificate on your transcript, possibly, just by taking BoK courses that you are already required to take).
