Activism
Feminist Activism
How you understand yourself as a person able to change the world we live in is based on your own worldviews. Theories, strategies and tools to change perceived wrongs in the world vary from person to person and shift throughout one’s own life based on life experiences, new theories, learning about historical events and analysis of the local and global context of the issues one is passionate about.
Using the Women’s Center’s definition of activism: working for and creating political and social change; our goal as a center is to facilitate the development of students’ own understanding of how to see themselves as political and social change agents.
It can be an empowering and triumphant feeling to be part of a movement and at other times it can feel exhausting and isolating. The Women’s Center hopes to connect students so that they may share their experiences or learn from one another. We hope students will begin to view and value their own work as activism even if it doesn’t fit a stereotypical view of activism.
Activist Brown Bag Lunch Series
We will be beginning an activist brown bag lunch series on January 27th 2010. The series will take place on the last Wednesday of the month from 12p-1p in 565 Steger Student Life Center. If you or someone you know would like to share your experiences of any kind of activism contact Kimberly.fulbright@uc.edu. The wider the variety of experiences the better to show that activism and change occurs at all levels in all different arenas in all different issues.
