Emily Joy
Senior, Fine Arts/Women's Studies
Emily Joy is one busy student! Emily is currently the president of Iota Iota Iota (Triota), a Women’s Studies Honor Society, and participates in numerous community activities. We recently asked Emily to share a few personal thoughts about herself for our Women’s History Profiles. Here’s some of what she shared with us…
UCWC: What three accomplishments are you most proud of?
EJ: 1. Putting myself through college.
2. Being a lead organizer for the first Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Youth Summit in Cincinnati, which was held at UC in March of 2003.
3. Helping to repeal Article XII, an anti-gay law in the City of Cincinnati.
UCWC: What do you wish someone had told you earlier in life?
EJ: That female soccer player you liked in high-school...she's gay too!
UCWC: Tell us something interesting about yourself.
EJ: My current empowering endeavor is playing roller derby with the Cincinnati Rollergirls, and kicking ass on roller skates.
Joy’s emails are often tagged with the following quote:
"We must not, in trying to think about how we can make a big difference, ignore the small daily difference we can make which, over time, add up to big differences that we often cannot foresee." ~Marian Wright Edelman
The UC Women’s Center is proud to recognize Emily Joy.
