Sexual Offense Response Team (SORT)
- Charge: The University of Cincinnati will develop a campus community that is conducive to members’ academic, career, and personal accomplishment. Violence and intimidation impede the development of community and is condemned in the strongest term. As such, the Sexual Offense Response Team (SORT) is charged with coordinating University responses to potential crimes and violations related to sex and gender, and ensuring that comprehensive support is made available to students who experience these offenses. Specifically these incidents include, but are not limited to, sexual violence, intimate partner violence, stalking, and gender-based violence. Meets in response to a reported on-campus crimes to determine how to best meet the survivor’s needs as well as create and employ a university response to the incident. In compliance with federal law, if adequate information has been provided to render communication with the university community informative and useful in protecting and educating our campus community, SORT and the Director of Public Safety will issue an electronic message to a staff and faculty e-mail distribution list and every student e-mail account. The same message may also be communicated via other channels as appropriate. The privacy rights of the survivor will always be respected in any communication with the UC community. SORT is further charged with regularly reviewing and evaluating relevant university policies and procedures; with making related recommendations as appropriate; and with working collaboratively with other units in reviewing data and assessing needs of the campus related to these offenses.
- Comprised of representatives from key constituents on campus including Counseling Center, Resident Education and Development, University Health Services, Ombuds Office, REACH, Public Safety, Athletic Department, Women’s Center, faculty and Public Relations.
