Wendy Lambing
Associate Registrar and Director of Student Records, Office of the Registrar
With University of Cincinnati community for 18 years
Wendy Lambing works tirelessly on behalf of students as Associate Registrar and Director of Student Records. We recently asked Lambing to share a few personal thoughts with us so that we can learn a little more about the woman behind the title. Her candid responses are below…
UCWC: What three accomplishments are you most proud of?
Wendy Lambing: I am very proud of my family, my colleagues in the Registrar’s Office, and my career choice. My husband, Stuart, and I will be celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary this summer and we are very involved in the lives of our 16 year old twins – Katie and Nat. My husband is a very good man and my children are caring, intelligent, strong people that make me very happy.
A second source of pride to me is the outstanding staff I get to work with in the Registrar’s Office. I believe the staff is well respected on campus and we are known to be an office upon whom you can depend.
Lastly, I’m proud of my career choices and my ability to do my job. My pride comes in knowing that I make a difference in being here at UC, and I feel extremely blessed to have a satisfying albeit challenging position.
UCWC: What do you wish someone had told you earlier in life?
WL: I wish someone had told me to stay in school and continue on to get that graduate degree. My husband and I talk with our children about going to college and graduate school in the same breath, trying to remove any ambiguity about the importance of post-baccalaureate studies. I believe the only thing constant is change and a solid education helps prepare you for what change may come.
UCWC: Who are your historical women guides? Whom do you admire presently?
WL: Many of the women whom I have aspired to be like will never be famous. They are family members like my mother who has always worked full-time to support her family and my Aunt Bea who earned two baccalaureate degrees in the 1930s when it wasn’t as easy for women to be successful in academia. They are close friends who have helped me to be a better person by their example and their willingness to accept me for being less than perfect. I’m thrilled to have a chance to vote for Hillary, but the woman I admire the most currently is my daughter, Katie. She teaches me and challenges me and still turns to me for counsel. I love the way she thinks and I’m proud that I had a little hand in that – even if her vote for Obama cancels out my vote for Clinton.
