How you understand yourself as a person able to change the world we live in is based on your own world views. Theories, strategies and tools to change perceived wrongs in the world vary from person to person and shift throughout one’s own life based on life experiences, new theories, learning about historical events and analysis of the local and global context of the issues one is passionate about.
Using the Women’s Center’s definition of activism, working for and creating political and social change, our goal as a center is to facilitate the development of students’ own understanding of how to see themselves as political and social change agents.
It can be an empowering and triumphant feeling to be part of a movement and at other times it can feel exhausting and isolating. The Women’s Center hopes to connect students so that they may share their experiences or learn from one another. We hope students will begin to view and value their own work as activism even if it doesn’t fit a stereotypical view of activism.

If you or someone you know would like to share your experiences of any kind of activism, contact Kimberly.fulbright@uc.edu. The wider the variety of experiences the better to show that activism and change occurs at all levels in all different arenas in all different issues.

The Student Activist Guide was created in the 2009-2010 school year by E.Kimmins Southard, a third year student with activist experience here at UC. The goal of this guide is to put all of the necessary information for student activists in one place for easy access. The UC Women's Center will do their best to keep this guide updated for the your use, but do not hesitate to contact us at 513.556.4401 if anything is unclear of if you have questions.
