Sexual Assault Awareness Intern or Volunteer: year-round availability
There is always work to be done to bring awareness to our campus about sexual assault, intimate partner violence, domestic violence and stalking. Do you have ideas for ways to do this?
Requirements: This person must be passionate about ending sexual violence; must have an interest in program implementation, must be committed to mission and vision of the Women's Center, ability to manage time effectively, ability to stay current on issues around violence prevention and events on campus and in the community.
Brown Bag Activist Lecture Series Intern or Volunteer: year-round availability
Our Activist Brown Bag Lunch Series takes place on the first Wednesday of most months from 12p-1p in 565 Steger Student Life Center. This person would plan and help advertise this series for the UC Women's Center.
Requirements: Interest in organizing UCWC's monthly lecture series around issues of activism and leadership, ability to understand and articulate gender/social justice issues, must be committed to mission and vision of the Women's Center, ability to manage time effectively, ability to stay current on issues and events on campus and in the community.
Men's Anti-violence Intern: during academic year
Many campuses have active male anti-violence groups - UC does not. Are you interested in getting one started?
Requirements: Must be male-identified and passionate about ending sexual violence; must have an interest in collaborating with other offices/groups/allies on campus; and have ideas and enthusiam aroundchallenging social constructions of masculinity. Must be committed to mission and vision of the Women's Center, ability to manage time effectively, ability to stay current on issues around violence prevention and events on campus and in the community.
$tart$smart Intern: year-round availability
$tart$smart is a workshop designed to educate graduating women with skills to negotiate their first salary. Developed by the WAGE project (www.wageproject.org) in sponsorship with AAUW, the workshop aims to address the gender wage gap, one woman at a time. The intern working on this project will help to:1)revamp and design the training curricula/materials 2)help in the presentation of the workshops.
Requirements: Students must be able to work independently, organized and interested in learning more about gender and the economy.
Vagina Monologues Intern-Winter Quarter
Would assist Program Coordinator for Activism and Education with staging annual campus production of Vagina Monologues. Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to): Organizing auditions, distributing monologues to potential actors, coordinating rehearsal schedules, coordinating distribution of fliers and handbills, coordinating house the night of show (ushers, tickets, playbills, etc) and other tasks as needed. Ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, project management experience, a clear bias for action, and basic familiarity with theater production.
C-Ring Program Volunteer-Winter quarter
C-Ring programming starts in October in 2010 and ends in May 2011. A volunteer can start right away. This volunteer must be committed to the Women's Center and advocacy for women.
Requirements:Will help market the program to UC colleges and advisors, as well as the logistics of the program and banquet. Student should be able to take directions, be organized and have clear communications skills.
