Biography
Nancy L. Zimpher is the 25th President of the University of Cincinnati - and its first woman president. Prior to her arrival at UC in October 2003, she was the Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and held a faculty position in the School of Education. Before her appointment in Wisconsin, she served as the Executive Dean of the Professional Colleges and Dean of the College of Education at her alma mater, The Ohio State University, in Columbus, Ohio. Dr. Zimpher has worked in various administrative positions and engaged in research and development efforts concerned with improving the preparation of teachers, especially teachers for urban contexts.
She is the co-author and co-editor of books on higher education (including University Leadership in Urban School Renewal and A Time for Boldness: A Story of Institutional Change ) and books on teacher education (including Profiles of Preservice Teacher Education: Inquiry into the Nature of Programs).
She serves as chair of the Urban Serving Universities and on the boards of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges, the American Council on Education and the American Association of Colleges for Teacher Education. She also serves on Ohio's newly formed Partnership for Continued Learning, co-chairs the Ohio Board of Regents' Articulation and Transfer Advisory Council, and is the Inter-University Council representative to the Ohio Board of Regents' Funding Commission. She serves on the Cincinnati Business Committee as well as the boards of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Cincinnati USA Regional Chamber of Commerce, Cincinnati Center City Development Corp. (3CDC), the United Way of Greater Cincinnati, the Uptown Consortium and Hebrew Union College-UC Ethics Center.
