John Andrews, M.D., M.P.H.

Since May 1998, Dr. Andrews has been the Assistant Senior Vice President Medical Center and Director, University Health Services at the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio.  He is administratively responsible for the University’s compliance with environmental regulations, directing the employee and student health clinics, and evaluating workers with work-related injuries and illnesses.

Prior to working at the University of Cincinnati, Dr. Andrews served for 20 years as a Commissioned Corps physician in the U.S. Public Health Service, both at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and at the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry (ATSDR).  He is Board certified in Internal Medicine, Preventive Medicine, and Occupational Medicine.  He has experience in the areas of internal and occupational medicine, public health, biological and chemical agents, and hazardous waste.

From 1985 - 1989, when he began working at the National Center for Environmental Health at the CDC, Dr. Andrews was involved with the investigation of adverse human health effects due to chemical exposures including dioxin and pesticides.  As the Associate Administrator for Science at ATSDR from 1989 – 1998, he was extensively involved in the study of hazardous chemical wastes including a suspected radiation-associated brain cancer cluster, suspected radiation-associated thyroid cancer, and numerous studies of persons living near hazardous waste sites.

Dr. Andrews has published numerous articles, edited or co-edited several book chapters, and co-edited two proceedings from national environmental meetings. He is a Volunteer Associate Professor of Clinical Environmental Health in the Department of Environmental Health at the University of Cincinnati and an Attending Regular member of the Medical Staff of University Hospital in the Department of Internal Medicine/ General Internal Medicine.

He is a member of multiple professional organizations and a fellow of the American College of Physicians, the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, the American College of Preventive Medicine, and the Collegium Ramazzini.
