Mental Health Program

Student life at the University of Cincinnati is often highly stressful.  It is not uncommon for students to experience conflicts that interfere with their ability to fully function both academically and in social relationships.

These conflicts may express themselves through a variety of ways including, but not limited to: anxiety, depression, not feeling well, difficulty studying, interpersonal struggles with friends or family members, and excessive drinking.

When a University Health Services physician observes the presence of emotional conflicts within the medical problems presented by students, they will often refer to mental health counselors who will provide problem-solving counseling for the purpose of resolving these issues.  While all counseling sessions are confidential, a close collaborative relationship is maintained with the student's Health Services physician to ensure that both physically and emotionally, the student will enjoy a high level of functioning in all significant areas of his/her life.

There are occasions when medication may be helpful in assisting the student to cope with emotional issues.  The Health Services physician will evaluate the desirability to prescribe medication.  A part-time psychiatrist is also available for evaluations and prescriptions.

The Mental Health Program located at 333 Richard E. Lindner Center is supervised by Milton E. Foreman, Ph.D. who has been a clinical psychologist for more than 35 years.  He received his doctorate from the Ohio State University in 1963.  He was Director of the University of Cincinnati Psychological Services Center for 30 years and was also a Professor of Psychology.  Dr. Foreman also served as Associate Vice Provost for Health and Psychological Services in the Student Affairs Division and Director of Clinical Psychological Training Program in the Department of Psychology.  He retired from full-time employment at UC in 1998 as Professor Emeritus of Psychology.
