What We Do

Student life at the University of Cincinnati may be stressful.  It is not uncommon for students to experience conflicts that interfere with their ability to fully function both academically and in social relationships.

UHS Mental Health provides professional, confidential mental health services for UC students. Providers are ready to help you with difficulties including stress, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, grief and loss, abuse, bipolar disorders, personality disorders, adjustment issues, academic distress and trauma.

Psychological assessments are provided for ADHD/LD and personality functioning.

How to get an appointment:

Please see a UHS physician, nurse practitioner or psychiatrist for a referral to UHS mental health.

Student Health Insurance:
If you have UC Student health Insurance, your visit with a UHS provider  for a referral is covered under your plan with no co-pay.

Other Insurance:
Out-of-pocket costs for provider visits for students with private insurance, or who elect to self-pay for our services will vary depending on your plans coverage, co-pays, co-insurance, and deductibles.

University Health Services accepts most insurance plans. However, it is always recommended that you check with your insurance plan to verify that University Health Services is in-network. Since UHS serves only students and employees of the University of Cincinnati you will not find UHS listed on any “how to find a provider” insurance web site. We will be listed as University of Cincinnati Physicians Company.  If your insurance plan pays to University of Cincinnati Physicians Company then you can be seen using your insurance coverage at UHS.

To schedule an appointment for a referral:

• UHS main campus (513) 556-2564
• UHS medical campus (513) 584-4457

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Wednesday: 9:30 a.m - 4:00 p.m.

Emergency walk-in services for urgent care are immediately available during regular business hours. After hours emergency numbers listed above.

If you are experiencing a mental health emergency during clinic business hours, please come to University Health Services and ask to speak to a physician or counselor. We make every attempt to address the needs of the students who are experiencing crises. If there are concerns about immediate safety, patients will be seen by the next available mental health provider for a crises intervention session to determine what level of care is needed at the time. In cases where there is immediate risk to safety of self or others, we partner with UC’s Psychiatric Emergency Service for additional evaluation and planning.
