Oral contraceptive pill prescriptions prescribed by non-UHS physicians

University Health Services (UHS) Pharmacy is able to offer oral contraceptives at reduced pricing. In order to comply with public health regulations, patients obtaining their prescriptions from UHS, need to be under the care of a UHS physician.

The process to purchase birth control pills at the University Health Services Pharmacy is as follows:

1. UHS must receive a copy of your recent pap smear (within the past 12 months) from your physician's office. This can be accomplished by:

• Bringing in a copy of your pap report to University Health Services
  
• If you do not have immediate access to your pap results, discuss this with a UHS nurse who will assist you with obtaining your results from your doctor. You will need to complete and sign a medical records release. 

2. Once the pap report is obtained, you will need to meet with a University Health Services physician for a Contraceptive Counseling office visit ($20.00 charge* covered by UHS Student Health Insurance) This can be done with either an appointment or walk-in basis, but appointments are recommended. At the time of your office visit, your blood pressure will be checked  and you will be asked to complete a short oral contraceptive questionnaire. If the UHS physician determines there are no contraindications, you will be provided with a prescription for enough pill packs until you next pap is due. 

3. Pill cost is $10.00 for one pack of a generic medication and $30.00 for one pack of a brand name medication. The insurance will only pay for one month of medication per 28 days.

4. Pharmacy hours are 8:30am - 4:30pm Monday - Friday. On the first Wednesday of the month, the pharmacy will open at 9:30.   University Health Services, including the pharmacy is closed on all University holidays.
Prescriptions must be picked up no later than 4:15pm when picking up your prescription at the Holmes location.
