Study Abroad – Munich Summer Curriculum

""

Submitted by Natalie Kohne ’08. Major: Electronic Media.

Munich Summer Curriculum

Each summer, students from UC’s electronic media program travel to Germany for an exciting and demanding nine-week-long program offered by Munich’s Ludwig-Maximilians-University. The Munich Summer Curriculum (MSC), taught in English by German and American professors, combines theory and applied electronic media subject matter with an internship at a German TV station or media organization.

The program gives students an unforgettable experience. They are immersed into a completely new lifestyle – they are able to compare and contrast the work ethics, teaching, learning and everyday lifestyles of their temporary home and their “real-life” home.

The experience broadened my thoughts and views on life. I was challenged in new ways. The classes were interesting and the internship was a great learning experience. I met extraordinary people. It’s a great feeling to know that I’ll always have a friend to stay with if I travel back to Europe.

Students earn 15 UC credit hours, while living in Munich, the Bavarian capital. The program is highlighted by several extra-curricular activities designed to take advantage of Munich's cultural importance, the city's geographic location and Germany's recent past and present history. Among the activities are weekend or day trips to Berlin, Leipzig and Salzburg, including guided tours of museums, castles, theaters and the magnificent Alps.

Students in Munich

The scenery was amazing. I felt like all of Europe was in my backyard. It was great to be able to travel on the weekends to different countries and experience the different cultures. I have a hunger now to see the world – to see it all.

UC’s International Programs office offers four types of student abroad experiences to help students become culturally competent for success in an ever-changing world. For information, go to http://www.uc.edu/global/
