Once the Ohio Mechanics Institute, now UC's College of Applied Science (CAS), this
was the first school for technical education west of the Alleghenies.

The
College of Applied
Science established
its neighborhood campus,
two miles from UC's
Uptown Campus, in
1989.
CAS provides
education in the engineering
technologies for undergraduates
as well as industry
clients. College of
Applied Science graduates
are in demand. The
graduate placement
rate for the past
ten years has exceeded
90 percent. |

The
newest addition to
the College of Applied
Science campus is
the 180-seat, electronic
classroom and auditorium
building. An additional
eight computer labs
for classroom instruction
using discipline-related
software are located
in the Administration
Bldg. |

CAS
grew from the Ohio
Mechanics Institute,
a private school founded
in 1828. It became
part of UC in 1969.
Throughout its history,
the school has been
instrumental in developing
Cincinnati industry
and culture. Today,
its co-op students
and graduates continue
to influence business
and technology in
the region.
