October 10, 2001

Time: 7:30 PM EDT
Loc: 900 Swift Hall

Attendance was great at yesterday's meeting. We had 8 undergrads, our faculty advisor, and Steve show up, along with Mark Haffner's dad. Also, we had a reporter from the News Record show up.

Topics covered include:

Repeater repair - The new antennas should be in on October the 16th with the repeater back on the soon after. This was welcome to all in the room as we all miss hearing it.

Dues - As it was the first meeting of the 2001-2002 school year, dues were collected at the meeting for repeater auto-patch access.

Run Like Hell - WEBN's annual event was talked about by various members and interest seemed good overall. All interested parties should contact Steve Lewis, N8TFD.

Swift Hall Renovation - This was a major point of discussion (when is it not?). According to Mark Haffner, SOA has found space for us in the top of Dabney Hall. While this does provide somewhere to go, the lack of towers makes running a station a bit difficult. SOA was notified of this, and also of our wish to remain in Swift. Dave Stuart has contacted Dr. Livingston, University vice-president, about the matter as well. Steve Lewis spoke up and mentioned that he would start rallying alumni. Everyone seemed to agree, we don't want to move, and we're willing to work to stay.

New Computer - Elliot Liggett brought up the idea of purchasing or looking for a newer computer for general use in the club. The purpose of a computer in the club was discussed at length, and it was determined that while a computer would have a share of usage in the clubhouse, unless it is donated, the option seems a bit far off.

Also discussed were possible publicity and recruitment events. These include: doing HS information sessions, a club alumni night, and also setting up a station in McMicken Commons for a day. Each was disscused as a viable option, and all seemed possible. While the HS info sessions would be difficult to pull off, it seemed worth it to everyone.

Election Nominations - It was decided that elections should be held at the next meeting with nominations starting now. Following through with that, any member who wishes to nominate themselves or others (the other person has to accept) should email Rick Altherr, KC8APF, with their name, callsign, some form of contact (i.e. phone number, email address, repeater freq), position running for, and a short statement of why you think you should be elected. I will collect all the nominations and the actual election will take place at the next meeting. The positions available are: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. If you have any questions about positions or what they do, email me at kc8apf@kc8apf.net

The next meeting was set for November 14, 2001 at 7:30pm.

News Record - The reporter took notes from our meeting and then asked members questions at the end. By the end of the meeting she seemed to understand what we do, and why we want to keep Swift Hall as our home. She has contact info for every member that was present as well as Dave Stuart. If she contacts you with questions, or to verify a quote, please answer promptly and curtiously.
