WCM Replacement Project Update - “We’re Learning and Growing”

UC has invested in its future on the Web by purchasing a powerful and flexible system called Communiqué [CQ5] by Day Software (http://www.day.com/) to assist the university community in creating and maintaining dynamic Web sites that provide valuable information and services to our Web visitors. This system, along with partner products for digital asset management and social collaboration, will enable UC to maximize its Web impact.

Comments from CMS Project Manager TJ Iaciofano:
The public RFP process was very successful. UC agreed collectively and purchased the CQ5 system from Day Software. This includes Web Content Management, Digital Asset Management, and Social Collaboration, which are all built on top of the CRX Java Content Repository. We began the installation and initial development in August. Not only do we have a new Web communication platform but UC is reinventing strategy. Day’s CQ5 best practices and professional services are assisting us in this process.

  • A conventional software development lifecycle (SDLC) is being developed based on Day’s best practices. Industry standard “Code Promotion” policies are being authored and tested.
  • This lifecycle is supported by a new infrastructure including Development, Quality Assurance and Production systems which are backed up and redundant. These systems were constructed last month by UCit’s Enterprise Application Integration Services Team and are currently being tested.
  • Strategic priorities of WCM will now be set through the Electronic Communications Planning Committee (ECPC).
  • New functionality will be continuously delivered by a community of campus participants called WCM Development Community. Development schedules and timelines will be managed by Web Communications and will use UCit change-management processes. This new partnership will increase the speed of delivery for new functionality in WCM. The group currently includes College of Business, Administration & Finance (UCit), UC International, Academic Health Center (College of Medicine, College of Nursing and more), Govt. Relations & Univ. Communications (Web Communications).

Note that WCM will continue to be supported by UCit Helpdesk and Business Core Services trainers. New online support documentation is currently being planned. Schedules and timelines for Collage conversions into CQ5 are being drafted. Base WCM capabilities are being planned in conjunction with a new Admissions Web site launch which is scheduled for Q2, FY10.

Current Collage customers are asked to reduce unneeded or unwanted content pages and bring their site content up-to-date. Organizational improvements that Collage authors are able to do without technical assistance are also encouraged to streamline the process of moving from Collage to CQ5.
