People sometimes simulate when they shouldn't, and other times don't when they should. If simulating, there are different ways to go at it, with practices that are both good and not-so-good, depending on the situation. Using commercial simulation software, I delineate some of these issues with simple examples, and then give a few case studies from basic combat modeling, logistics, maritime operations, public policy, and health care.
