Doug Arthur, ATOS Origin – “You Haven’t A Clue!”

So you think you know what information technology is all about. Doug Arthur, in this provocative speech, asserts that “you haven’t a clue!” Doug will discuss the pervasiveness of IT in our society and how an IT education can be a springboard to a career in virtually any field you choose. He will challenge your assumptions about what an IT education and career mean and leave you with a broadened vision of the field.

Doug is Manager of Great Lakes Commercial Support Services for Atos Origin, Inc., an international IT services company with over 47,000 employees in 40 countries. Doug has been heading their Great Lakes marketing, bid management, and commercial support services since 2003. He is also Program Coordinator for the INTERalliance of Greater Cincinnati, a collaborative effort of regional business and educators (including Atos Origin, Chiquita, Cintas, Fifth Third Bank, P&G, Toyota, and UC), working to create an environment to give local young IT talent a compelling reason to stay in southwest Ohio both for college and their careers.

Computing Pathways – Choosing the Right College Program:

Most universities offer a wide range of information technology related programs – computer engineering, computer science, information systems, information technology, digital design, etc. Which program is right for you? Faculty from the 3 Universities will discuss the range of choices, differences among them, what careers each program prepares you for, and what you should be thinking about in choosing among them.

Making the Most of your College Experience

What is college life really like? What are the secrets to a successful and rewarding co-op experience? What are the main challenges you face in your first few years as a working professional?  What pitfalls do you need to avoid? How do you maximize your opportunity set, and make the most of your experience, both during and right after college? Recent graduates and current students from the three Universities will share their perspectives on these topics.

Successfully Navigating the Corporate Landscape

Success in the corporate world is rarely accidental. While education and talent are important, it is equally critical to “manage” your career well. But what does this really entail? Experienced, successful women from the corporate world will engage you in an interactive discussion on the tricks of the trade – effective networking, creating and choosing career options, and other secrets to moving up the corporate ladder.

Managing Diversity in the Workplace

We live in a world defined by diversity – in gender, age, nationality, and culture, to name just a few sources. Such diversity makes the world more interesting but also creates some challenges for the up and coming manager. How do you manage a subordinate who is twenty years older than you? How do you work effectively on a team with someone from another country and culture? Is there still an implicit glass ceiling – if so, how can you get past it? Come listen to experienced panelists from the three corporations who grapple with, and successfully overcome, these challenges everyday.
