Starry Night by Edvard Munch

Edvard Munch is acclaimed for his vivid symbolist painting and regarded as a pioneer of Expressionism. In this painting, Starry Night, he captures the stillness of a landscape in winter, when for so many weeks, the sun never quite comes up. It is akin to a permanent night in snow that has all the hallucinatory qualities of a mystical experience. Van Gogh has his Starry Nights, Edvard Munch has his also. He is the Norwegian answer to Van Gogh.
