In this fascinating class, Dr. Patrick Guerra will guide you through different fabrics (silk, cotton, and polyester) and evaluate their material properties. Armed with this information, students can explore the right fabric and design for their personal facemask based on their preferences for the level of protection, comfort, and skin health. Drawing upon his recently published research on the silk moth and face protection, the class will study the architectural and biophysical properties of cocoons of various species and, weather permitting, venture outdoors to look for cocoons.
