Class Schedule Blocks

Class schedule blocks are in place for multiple reasons: They help ensure that students do not have overlapping classes; they help the Office of the Registrar efficiently schedule classes in centrally–scheduled rooms; and they guarantee compliance with Ohio Department of Higher Education minimum instructional minutes requirements.

ODHE Minimum Instructional Minutes Requirements by Credit Hour

  • One Credit Hour=750 minutes
  • Two Credit Hours=1,500 minutes
  • Three Credit Hours=2,250 minutes
  • Four Credit Hours=3,000 minutes
  • Five Credit Hours=3,750 minutes
  • Six Credit Hours=4,500 minutes

Fall Semester Class Minute Calculations

Fall Semester classes consist of 15 weeks of classes plus one week of exams. Holidays have been subtracted.

Three Credit Hour Classes

  • MWF classes=42 meetings x 55 minutes=2,310 instructional minutes
  • MW/MF/WF classes=28 meetings x 80 minutes=2,240 instructional minutes
  • TR classes=29 meetings x 80 minutes=2,320 instructional minutes
  • M/T/W/R/F classes=13–15 meetings x 170 minutes=2,210–2,550 instructional minutes

Four Credit Hour Classes

  • MTWR or MTWF classes=56 class meetings x 55 minutes=3,080 instructional minutes
