Dell Contract for Desktops and Laptops

About the Contract

As part of UC’s commitment to affordability and enhanced efficiency, the Board of Trustees at its June 25, 2013 meeting approved a contract between the University of Cincinnati and Dell, Inc., which provides an estimated $1.2 M in savings to the university on purchases of a set of standard configurations for PC laptops and desktops, as well as monitors and printers. The contract is effective July 1, 2013.

The standard configurations were determined following a full spend analysis of PC hardware purchases for the three previous years and was based on recommendations made by central and local IT managers after reviewing the needs of faculty and staff they support. In awarding Dell a single preferred partner status, the university has agreed that all purchases, irrespective of funding sources, of PC desktops and laptops must be made through Dell, except those receiving an exception approval. The exceptions will be approved at the local level through the unit’s IT manager(s).

Purchasers will have access to a customized Dell site:

  • University Shopper Access. Important peripherals such as printers and monitors are also included at special discounts through the contract.

Additionally, the university’s relationship with Dell will also allow for retail opportunities through the UC Bookstores to better serve students and the personal needs of faculty and staff.
