Major John Johnson commissioned in 2000 as an Air Defense Artillery Officer from the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York.

He has served in the following leadership and staff positions:  Senior Patriot Advisor/Team Leader, U.S. Army Security Assistance Training Management Organization, United Arab Emirates and Qatar; J7 Training/Exercises Plans Officer, NATO Rapid Deployable Corps-Italy, Milan, Italy; Air Defense Chief, 19th Battlefield Coordination Detachment, Ramstein, Germany; Chief of Operations, 10th Army Air and Missile Defense Command, Rhine Ordnance Barracks, Germany; Headquarters and Headquarters Detachment Commander, 357th Air and Missile Defense Detachment, Rhine Ordnance Barracks, Germany; Army Airspace Command and Control Air Defense Operations Officer, 5th Corps Air Defense Element, Heidelberg, Germany; Battery Executive Officer, Headquarters and Headquarters Battery, 32nd Army Air and Missile Defense Command, Fort Bliss, Texas; Battery Executive Officer, Charlie Battery, 1-43rd Air Defense Artillery Battalion, Osan Airbase, South Korea.  He currently serves as the Battalion Executive Officer and an Assistant Professor of Military Science for the University of Cincinnati Army ROTC Battalion in Cincinnati, Ohio.

His military education includes: Command and General Staff College; NATO Exercise Planning Course; Joint Air Operations Staff Course; Air Defense Artillery Officer Advance Course; Air Defense Artillery Officer Patriot Course; Air Defense Artillery Officer Basic Course; Commanders Safety Course; Unit Movement Officer Course; Company Commander and First Sergeant Course; Contracting Officer Representative Course; Antiterrorism Basic Course; Common Faculty Development Instructor Course; and Army Airborne School.

He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Foreign Area Studies: Latin America from the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. 

He has served multiple combat and operations tours in Asia, the Middle East and Eastern Europe.

His military awards and decorations include the following:  Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Achievement Medal (1 Oak Leaf Cluster), Joint Meritorious Unit Award, National Defense Service Medal (with Bronze Star), Iraqi Campaign Medal (with Campaign Star), Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Ribbon (with 7th Numeral Award), and the Parachutist Badge.

MAJ Johnson is married to the former Nicole Augusto from Naples, Italy and has two daughters and one son.
