UC Testing Services will conduct testing sessions via Zoom for your proctored exams. Guidance for exam preparation and your exam-day experience is outlined below.  

Generally, the process works like this:

  1. Make an appointment using the TimeTap link provided by your professor (48-hours in advance)
  2. On test day, click on the Zoom link you were emailed the day before to talk to your proctor
  3. Talk to your proctor on the Zoom call, they will guide you through the process
  4. Open Canvas with Zoom on the background (do not disconnect Zoom)
  5. Begin test when the proctor lets you know you are ready to go

About 2 Weeks Before the Exam/When You Know the Exam Date(s): 

Go to TimeTap and register for your exam:

  • Your instructor will provide a unique link that takes you directly to their course exam registration.
  • You will then select the date and time you wish to take it. 
  • Your instructor may have the exam on a specific day and time for everyone, or they may allow you to schedule your exam within a certain timeframe. 
  • Include your contact information, as this is how the testing link will be shared with you
  • You will receive an email confirmation that you have successfully registered for your upcoming exam
  • Exam registration windows close 48-hours ahead of the exam. Do not wait to schedule.

Technical Requirements:

  • Download Zoom Desktop Client
  • Make sure you have the Google Chrome Browser on your computer
  • Make sure you have the Honorlock Chrome Extension installed (Note: Honorlock does not work on iPads)

24-Hours Before the Exam:

You will receive an email from UC Testing Services detailing:

  • Exam Name
  • Exam Date/Time
    • Please note that you are required to join 30 minutes before the scheduled exam time
  • A Zoom link to connect to the session
  • A list of items needed, including
    • Computer with camera, microphone, and speakers
    • Identification (Bearcat ID, Driver’s License, or Passport)
    • Any items allowed by faculty, such as scratch paper
  • Please note that no cell phones, electronic watches, or headphones are allowed during the session

What to Expect When You Join the Exam Session:

  • A live proctor will check you in and be present during the entire exam
  • Exam Integrity Check
    • The proctor will verify your identity by using a picture ID (Bearcat ID, Driver’s License, or Passport)
    • The proctor will conduct a workstation scan to ensure your testing environment is free of distractions. Other students will attend the same session, so please ensure you feel comfortable with sharing a view of your testing environment
    • The proctor may check additional materials, such as scratch paper and pencils
    • Do’s and Don’t’s during your exam session:
      • Do stay within the camera frame for the duration of exam
      • Do turn on your microphone  and leave it on for the duration of the exam
      • Do maintain your gaze on the computer screen
      • Don’t leave your secured working space
      • Don’t use a touchscreen, as these devices are not allowed
    • Browser Guard
      • Honorlock’s Browser Guard may be used at the discretion of your instructor
  • You will be asked to acknowledge that the proctoring session will be recorded
  • You will also be asked to acknowledge agree to participate in the proctoring process when you join the session

During the Exam:

  • The proctor will watch the entire session
  • The proctor will note behavioral flags, including but not limited to
    • Looking around or scanning
    • Background noise
    • Reaching
  • The proctor may ask you to show something on camera (such as your desktop) or ask you to address distractions during your testing session
If you have any questions, concerns, or issues, you can reach out to proctor through Zoom Chat at any point during the test. However, please note that tester-to-tester chat will be disabled during the test.

After the Exam:

  • You must confirm with the proctor that you have submitted the exam
  • The proctor will write down the time of check-out and compare it to the time of the exam submission to ensure exam fidelity
