Over-the-Rhine Community Education Project

With faculty and students from the UC College of DAAP, UCCDC collaborated with the Children’s Defense Fund, Cincinnati Public Schools, and Local (citizen) School Decision Making Committees to promote the US Dept. of Education program “Schools as Centers for Community Learning”. This program calls for new or renovated school facilities to incorporate within the proposed school complex, compatible and synergistic programming and/or facilities of local community partners, such as a senior center. Over an eight month period, the collaborating team conducted community organizing exercises in the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood of Cincinnati, helped the school leadership committee find community partners, facilitate community visioning, and provide architectural design and rendering to illustrate potential facility solutions.
