Race Street Identity Plan

The Race Street Streescape, Graphic Identity, and Wayfinding Plan is a physical improvement plan intended to enhance the aesthetic and functional aspects of Downtown Cincinnati's major retail district. The district suffers from poor visual appearance, marginal streetscape amentities, absence of identity, and a subsequent decline in the quality of vendors, combined with an increase in retail vacancies. Improvement of the district was seen as a key element in maintaining the viability of Downtown Cincinnati as a vital urban center for the region. The program and design work were initiated through an interdisciplinary design studio conducted at the College of DAAP during 1995 which involved more than 50 students and represented four different disciplines: Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Interior Design and Planning.
