Window Guard Prototype

The Community Design Center provided industrial design services to the City of Cincinnati Health Department to research and design a prototype window guard to protect children from accidental falls from windows. The Health Department statistics on child fatalities indicate the need to provide safety measures to reduce accidental falls. The Health Department and the Cincinnati City Council are seeking prototype designs that can facilitate widespread use of window guards because of increased ease of installation and reduced costs. The success of the window guard will impact potential ordinances to amend the city’s building code that require owners to provide and maintain window guards.
